Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932), a German artist and professor, was inspired in his art with nature and the way in which plants grew. He captured these ‘art forms in nature’ and used them to instruct his students.

An Awesome Book! by Dallas Clayton
I try to make things that are beautiful. Sometimes these things are written down.
Sometimes they are drawn. Sometimes they are wrapped and plastic and sold in important stores for more money than they cost to manufacture. I love making most things. I am most interested in making people happy. I have a son who is five years old. I enjoy making him happy most of all. I would like to do this more and more every day forever. This is why I write for children.
When I am not writing for children I am writing for adults and the companies adults run, drawing pictures for those adults, and reading things out loud to crowds of strangers. I love strangers.

“Urban Source has been Vancouver’s number one choice for alternative art materials for over 15 years. We collect from over 100 different local industries, diverting safe, useable off-cuts, discards, misprints and over-stock from the land fill. Materials are then sorted, organized and prepared for the store. Most importantly, we come up with a variety of innovative uses for everything we collect.
Artists, designers, teachers, students, daycare workers and families rely on us for providing one of a kind art materials. Local industries are happy to have us haul away their unwanted goodies thereby reducing their disposal costs.”
Every city needs one!

By multimedia artist and musician Mark Fischer. I am amazed by the fine details and the simple fact that someone out there had the idea, but also had the patience and precision to make it work.
but wait… there are more… racoon/washbear, bird, panda… owl. I am crazy about that owl!
UPDATE: Good News…prints are on the way… I will keep you posted.

“I sincerely believe that for the child, and for the parent seeking to guide him, it is not half so important to know as to feel. If facts are the seeds that later produce knowledge and wisdom, then the emotions and the impressions of the senses are the fertile soil in which the seed must grow. The years of early childhood are the time to prepare the soil. Once the emotions have been aroused- a sense of the beautiful, the excitement of the new and the unknown, a feeling of empathy, pity admiration or love – then we wish for knowledge about the object of our emotional response. Once found, it has lasting meaning. It is important to pave the way for the child to want to know than to put him on a diet of facts he is not ready to assimilate.”
AMAZING NEWS: I just discovered a film has been made and will be in select theaters this year – watch the trailer on the website for the film titled “A Sense Of Wonder”.

The Regional Assembly of Text was opened in late August of 2005 by the two of us, Rebecca Dolen & Brandy Fedoruk. While attending the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, we collaborated on a number of projects and curated a series of book shows together. After graduating in 2003 we decided to put our minds & hands to work. The result of which, was our very own little store. Focusing on text as a theme, the store features many lovely things designed and built by us.”
