Reading 101: a great resource!

World Forum

The World Forum on Early Care and Education is being held in Malaysia this year and I am happy to report that Ms. Quincilia Siah, an ECCE Instructor in Vancouver, BC, and a former colleague of mine, will be in attendance.

Quincilia was born in the city of Kota Kinabalu in the state of Sabah. She left Malaysia with her family, in 1989 when she was 13 years old, and it has been nine years since her last visit. Ms. Siah’s trip was planned around a family event and she is ecstatic that the World Forum is taking place during her stay, and that with the help of her school, she is able to attend.

Quin will be sharing here experiences at the World Forum and photos for her trip, here with us on urbanpreschool.com.

Please let us know if there are any specific topics, questions or interests you have in regards to the World Forum Program and Quin will see what she can do about collecting information for you, while she is there.

Please stay tuned.

ReFocus

Being away from my home country and living in Europe has brought this question to the forefront of my mind -”what is going on in the field of Early Childhood Education on an International level?”.

Thanks to the internet, I have collected an overwhelming amount of links to websites and blogs that have allowed me to gain some insight into ECE around the world. I have files full of articles, journals and case studies past and present, sitting on my desktop. I am learning and I have a strong desire to share my findings with you – and I will – slowly but surely (All articles, journals and case studies presented on this blog, can be found under “Library”) – I encourage you to do the same.

Allow me to introduce you to my latest find: ReFocus.

ReFocus “is the UK network of early childhood educators, artists and others influenced in their practice by the pre-schools of Reggio Emilia. A nationwide learning community – connecting creative reflective practice and projects and influencing policy development in the UK.

ReFocus publishes a journal, bi-annually, January and September.

Issue 3 contains articles by:
Carlina Rinaldi, Andrea Sully, Ian Lakin and Debi Keyte-Hartland.

“In this edition there is a focus on the role and responsibility of documentation including the processes involved, different techniques and styles, the possible uses and the benefits of making learning visible for educators, children, parents and other professionals. Also book reviews, practical advice, international issues and information on the development of the ReFocus Network.”
