"The mission of the International Children's Digital Library (ICDL Foundation) is to support the world's children in becoming effective members of the global community - who exhibit tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online free of charge. The Foundation pursues its vision by building a digital library of outstanding children's books from around the world and supporting communities of children and adults in exploring and using this literature through innovative technology designed in close partnership with children for children."
This morning I came across this amazing resource for both teachers and parents (aunts, uncles, grandmothers/grandfathers, big brothers and sisters, nannies, babysitters and the next door neighbor too).
The International Children's Digital Library is " a library for the world's children" and I believe parents and teachers too. This website allows you to browse their international collection, for free, as well as read their books from cover to cover. Membership is also free and allows you to select your preferred language, save favorites, return to the last page you were reading and access these features from any computer.
Not only is this site excellent for adding multiculturalism into your program (and daily life), it is also a great resource for those of you who are teaching your students or children a foreign language.
PLEASE take a few minutes to explore this site and be sure to add it to your bookmarks. Pass it on!
